This month’s edition of 11 Ride Ideas includes some regional events along with routes that are part of the 17 week Century Training series. We hit the local bicycling resources and our partners to collect ride ideas that cover San Diego, Los Angeles, Orange County and just about anywhere you want to ride.
1. February 19th (weather permitting) Trek Century Training Ride, Encinitas 8am. Weekend group training rides with this well organized and well supported group preparing for the San Diego Century on May 21, 2011 and the Gran Fondo Colnago San Diego on April 10. No charge to join one, or all of the 17 weekend group rides and prepare for a May century ride.
2. February 20, Pasadena Marathon Ride. Start and Finish at Pasadena City College, 1570 E. Colorado Blvd. Pasadena, CA 91106
3. February 26, Le Tour de Manure, Town Square, 7th & Main in El Centro at 8:00 am.
4. February 26, Trek Century Training Ride, Rancho San Diego 7:30am sharp! Next ride to prepare for the San Diego Century on May 21, 2011 and the Gran Fondo Colnago San Diego on April 10.
5. Saturdays, 8:00 am in Pasadena. The Montrose ride, which starts at Descanso Gardens in La Canada (about 3 miles northwest of the Rose Bowl in Pasadena), covers about 45 miles on it’s way to the official “end” of the ride in Sierra Madre. Great ride for experienced riders and bring fresh legs!
5. Saturdays, 8:30 am in Irvine. Great workout for experienced riders. As with many of the Saturday rides there are two routes, one long and one short. The split is at Alton/Laguna Canyon. The shorter group turns right into Laguna Canyon. The long group continues on Alton Parkway and does the “Church Hill” power climb on El Toro Road before continuing down into Laguna Canyon. Next it’s north on PCH to the Newport coast climb which breaks up all the fun.
6. Check out the San Diego County Bicycle Coalition calendar for club rides, training rides and group rides.
7. The Los Angeles County Bicycle Coalition calendar will tie you into a host of LA cycling options.
8. Last week for this series of Stationary Cycling Classes at the San Diego Trek Bicycle Superstores in Vista and La Mesa.
