FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

San Diego Century Bike Ride announces partnership with Trek Bicycle Superstore

The San Diego Century Bicycle Tour is pleased to announce a partnership with Trek Bicycle Superstore for this year’s ride to be held Saturday, May 21 in Encinitas.

With four locations in San Diego County and one outlet in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Trek has established itself as one of the most trusted cycling shops in the region.

Trek is supporting the San Diego Century Bicycle Tour by holding weekend training rides that have attracted up to 200 participants. Trek is also offering store discounts to San Diego Century participants.  In addition, coaches Darryl MacKenzie and Bruce Millikin have been conducting stationary cycling classes at Trek stores to help cyclists get ready for the big event in May.

“We’re thrilled to be involved in establishing a training program for the San Diego Century Bicycle Tour,” said Mike Olson, President of Trek Bicycle Superstore. “Through our efforts, we hope to encourage many more people in our region to embrace the sport of cycling.”

“I’m delighted that Trek Bicycle Superstore has offered to help participants train for this year’s San Diego Century Bicycle Tour,” said event organizer Jim Curl. “The weekend training rides have been a huge success and Trek’s commitment to our event has been unparalleled.”

The fifth annual San Diego Century Bicycle Tour, beginning and ending at MiraCosta College, features a choice of three distances (37, 66, or 103-mile routes), along with exhibitor booths, tasty cuisine and live music.

The San Diego Century Bicycle Tour, produced by Event Media, Inc., will conclude an exciting week of cycling in the county as the week of May 16-20 has been proclaimed “Bike to Work” week in San Diego. One of the noted riders in the San Diego Century Bicycle Tour will be the Hon. Jerome Stocks, Chairman of SANDAG (San Diego Association of Governments) and Encinitas Councilperson, who is an ardent supporter of “Bike to Work” week. He will be riding the 103-mile course alongside his 15-year-old son, James.

About San Diego Century Bicycle Tour

The San Diego Century Bicycle Tour is a choice of 37, 66, or 103-mile bicycle ride through North County San Diego coast and east county.  New this year is the Taste the Hills Festival, where cyclists, family and friends can enjoy outstanding food, fun and music at MiraCosta College in Cardiff, California.

The cycling courses provide riders with an opportunity to taste the hills with both varying elevation gains and tasty cuisine at the aid stations and finish line.  Hills on the courses range from moderate on the 37-mile course to challenging on the 103-mile course.

A portion of proceeds from the ride help support the San Diego County Bicycle Coalition — www.sdcbc.org — a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to making bicycling better in greater San Diego. For more information on the San Diego Century Bicycle Tour, visit: www.sdcentury.com.
