How to Win a Bike Jersey on 4/27

Enjoy surf views on the home stretch of the San Diego Century.

Your fellow rider Brent offered a great suggestion last week for a jersey contest:  ride photos! We’re going to take him up on it, thanks, Brent! This week’s jersey giveaway question is all about great photos from your workouts, your events and even from any spot on the San Diego Century courses!

If you haven’t participated yet, we will be giving away San Diego Century bike jerseys and merchandise this week (and every week until 5/19) with some fun website questions.  We gave away one jersey over the weekend, so there will be one winner on Friday from those who participate this week.  The winner will receive a free 2012 San Diego Century bike jersey.

Whether or not you want to participate, be sure to check out our 2012 merchandise, including the jersey, t-shirts and caps.

This week’s question is “What is your best biking photo from your rides or from any spot on the San Diego Century routes?”  Post a comment below with your answer & photo (or link to your photo) to get in on the Jersey contest.

I rode the Tour de Summerlin in Las Vegas. It takes you through the beautiful Red Rock Canyon National Park. I only braved the 40 mile course which included over 1700 feet of elevation change. The hardy folks who took on the full century also had to ride the very challenging 7 mile Red Rock loop. I fully intend to try the century next year. This is a great event to add to your ride calendar for 2013, and when isn’t it a good time to visit Las Vegas!

My very best and favorite cycling photo-cresting Mt. Ventoux. I never would have attempted a climb like this before I did the SD Century training with the Trek group and learned I could ride great distances and climb thousands of feet in a single day:

I won’t count this as an entry, but I’ll share a photo of me rocking the 2009 San Diego Century jersey on a climb in Mallorca (trying to beat a tour bus you can’t see to a narrow switchback):

I forgot to add that the instant the first picture above captures is the best moment I’ve had on a bicycle since the training wheels came off.

Last weekend I was riding the Bayshore Bikeway when I saw these salt piles. It was an overcast day with the sky the same color as the salt which is what caught my attention.

I was riding with one of my best friends all day on one of the nicest days in San Diego, and found ourselves at Cabrillo National Monument.

OK, it’s not the SD Century route, heck, it’s not even San Diego, but thanks to the LAPD escort, riding the City of Angels Ride last Sunday felt like riding with the President.

Derek - I know exactly what route you were on. Red Rock is a popular climb around there, and for a very good reason. All of the hard effort is worth it when you get to the top.

I’ve already won a jersey, but I’ll submit these anyway -

But the best part of the leg is going to be Elfin Forest for sure.

My crew and I went on an amazing training session in Santiago Canyon this past weekend and I was able to capture this picturesque photograph. It was a 32 mi loop with over 2300 ft elevation gain, which encompasses rolling hills and long gradual climbs. One can easily add an extra 20 mi to this loop.

Here is how I roll with my two best bike partners, my lovely wife and our tiny traveler, Bear, (a 4-lb teacup Yorkie who comes along for 20 mile rides after work, weather-permitting.)

Dave, awesome photo, thank you for sharing. We posted the picture on the facebook page, also. And we had someone inquire about the backpack you use so they could take their best friend out also:) Do you have any details on the backpack?

One of my Favorite ride and farthest ride was from Cerritos to Crystal Cove and back this past weekend. I made a stop on one of the picturesque place in California- Corona Del Mar Beach. Definitely a payoff to a long ride and very relaxing view. Wanted to stay longer but had to keep pedaling. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=3187122712448&set=a.3187122472442.2125610.1097204776&type=1&theater

Cycled the 50ish mile Rosarito-to-Ensenada fun bike ride in this Fab-u-lus “Flying PINK Pig”, couture outfit(https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10150719794672599.414415.145050317598&type=1#!/photo.php?fbid=10150721691772099&set=o.145050317598&type=1&theater). Thoughts from mile 1 to 20, before any hills (ie “El Tigre”), was that this was a GREAT idea, especially taking the FREE beer instead of water! Then, once I finally got to the top, top, it wasn’t over! Winds going back down caused havoc on my protective PIG head gear, not to mention my hoofs getting in the way of braking when you start to notice that there is no guard rails on the hill decent into the canyons! ALL in ALL, I’m doing it again this Cinco de Mayo. Wweeeeee!

172 miles? Tired? Heck no! Perfect time for yoga and a perfect “10″ eka pada kundinasana (sp?).
