FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

San Diego Century Bike Ride to incorporate ‘Taste the Hills’ food festival into event

Cyclists and spectators alike will be able to satisfy their culinary cravings during this year’s San Diego Century Bicycle Tour, to be held Saturday, May 21 in Encinitas.

This popular annual cycling event – beginning and ending at MiraCosta College in Cardiff - has teamed up with Main Street Oceanside (MSO) to provide participants and spectators with an array of tasty delights at the “Taste the Hills” food and expo emporium that will surround the start and finish of the bike tour.

“We’re excited to partner again with Main Street Oceanside for Taste the Hills,” said Jim Curl, event organizer. “We enjoyed great success working together last fall on Bike the Coast — Taste the Coast and we’re expecting more of the same at the San Diego Century.”

MSO, producers of the highly successful weekly Farmers and Sunset Markets in Oceanside, will bring in a range of popular local food providers from its weekly markets.  Booths will offer a wide variety of gastronomic choices, ranging from Mediterranean to Philippine to Cuban cuisine.

“This is our first venture outside of Oceanside and we’re excited to be part of one of the most anticipated events on the local cycling calendar,” said Kim Heim, Director of MSO (www.msoceanside.com). “We are looking forward to a most successful event.”

MSO’s initial foray into cycling occurred last November during the Bike the Coast — Taste the Coast event in Oceanside. The success of that event prompted Heim to pursue the San Diego Century opportunity. “Taste the Hills” will be part of an emporium that will include an expo comprised of sports and fitness booths and live music. The food and expo emporium will begin at 10 a.m. and continue until 5 p.m. at MiraCosta College.  The San Diego Century Bicycle Tour, produced by Event Media, Inc., will conclude an exciting week of cycling in the county as the week of May 16-20 has been proclaimed “Bike to Work” week in San Diego.
