JULY 14, 2015

Miss Oceanside and Miss Teen Oceanside to send off and welcome riders home

The popular Bike The Coast – Taste The Coast presented by Tri-City Medical Center (www.bike-the-coast.com), a unique cycling event, food festival and sports expo in Oceanside, has already surpassed 1,000 participants for its sixth annual event set for Saturday, October 10. The event has a maximum of 2,400 riders.

“This is the earliest we’ve reached the 1,000-rider mark,” said event organizer Jim Curl of Event Media, Inc. “The community has really embraced this event and we’re expecting a record number of participants.”

As in previous years, this event will feature a choice of five bike rides (7, 15, 25, 50 & 100 miles), along with the Mainstreet Oceanside Street Food Festival, the San Diego County Bike Coalition Charity Beer Garden, and a Sports Expo at the Oceanside Pier. Working with Visit Oceanside, the event has already begun to draw reservations for that weekend.

In addition, the current Miss Oceanside and Miss Teen Oceanside will once again be present at the start and finish of Bike The Coast in the Strand under the Pier to greet riders. Kylea Mackenzie (Miss Oceanside) is a graduate of El Camino High where she specialized in advanced auto shop and art. She will attend Cal State Northridge in the fall with a goal to pursue a degree in ASL interpreting and speech pathology. Jacinda Rios (Miss Teen Oceanside) is a senior at El Camino High School.  She is ASB President, an SOS Mentorship Ambassador and a Varsity Cheerleader. Her plans to attend a four-year university after graduation and become an emergency room nurse at Rady Children’s Hospital.
