Hey everyone!
Just wanted to update you on a really cool event that I have the pleasure of being a part of. Bike The Coast is an event sponsored by the City of Oceanside Bicycle Committee, Main Street Oceanside and the Oceanside Chamber of Commerce. The event takes place in Oceanside on November 5th and 6th and will include a bike ride that starts and finishes at the Oceanside Pier along with live music, food, and a whole lot of fun! Hopefully, the ride will get more people in Oceanside on bikes, although we must be doing pretty well already since the League of American Bicyclists has deemed us a ‘Bronze Level Bicycling Community’.There are courses for everyone, whether you’re an experienced cyclist or a beginner, beach cruiser or BMX biker and all ages are welcome. The proceeds from the ride support the San Diego County Bicycle Coalition and I’m also riding to support the American Cancer Society.
So, I’ve been training for the past couple weeks and I just completed my online bike education class! Obviously it’s a lot easier to learn something out of a textbook than it is to learn by actually doing it, so while I will say that while the online courses weren’t too difficult, I am anticipating that the the second part of the course, the actual road skills interactive part, will be considerably more difficult. It’s like Driver’s Ed vs. Driver Training. And I must say, while I aced Driver’s Ed I never even TOOK Driver’s Training. The class is on Saturday so wish me luck! And keep checking back on my blog or on my FB page to keep updated on Bike The Coast!

Miss Oceanside gearing up to participate in Bike the Coast – Taste the Coast, Nov. 6
Lauryn Moses, Miss Oceanside 2010, will be pedaling in the inaugural Bike the Coast – Taste the Coast on Saturday, Nov. 6. A novice cyclist, Moses has signed up to take a bicycle safety class sponsored by the San Diego County Bicycle Coalition (SDCBC) to get ready for the big event.
“My cycling experience is rather limited, so what better way to get ready for Bike the Coast – Taste the Coast than by learning proper bike safety techniques,” said Moses, 23, a graduate of Oceanside’s El Camino High School and the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in Los Angeles. “I’m really looking forward to participating in this wonderful community event.”
Moses will be riding in Bike the Coast – Taste the Coast in support of the American Cancer Society.
Bike the Coast – Taste the Coast has teamed up with the San Diego County Bicycle Coalition (SDCBC) to encourage people of all ages to enjoy the benefits of cycling. San Diego, CA, July 16, 2010 -(PR.com)- Event Media, Inc., in conjunction with the Oceanside Bicycle Committee and the City of Oceanside, announces the inaugural BIKE THE COAST bike tour to be held on Saturday November 6, 2010.
The event is a community-based bicycle tour with four out-and-back routes along starting and finishing along the beach at Oceanside Pier.
The River Route (7 or 15 miles) is out and back on the San Luis Rey Bike Trail. These courses are very safe and flat and designed for beginners, casual cruisers, families and visitors.
The Beach Route heads south along the Coast to a turn around in Encinitas for the 25 mile course, or into Carmel Valley and Rancho Santa Fe for the 50 mile course. These courses showcase the world famous beaches, towns and landmarks that stretch north along the coast from San Diego to Oceanside.
All biking courses will be well marked, offer food and drink at SAG stations as well as mobile mechanics and support. All riders receive a participant’s gift and a finisher’s medal.
In conjunction with finish of the bicycling event, the “Taste the Coast” exposition will feature fun, food and activities for family and friends with booths that offer some of the wonderful range of foods available in Oceanside.
