“What’s Your 10 Week Goal?”

Training Inspiration from Olympian Shelley Olds

Post your answer to “What is your 10 week cycling or fitness Goal?” by 8/27  for a chance at our weekly giveaways.

One of the best steps to successfully completing goals, one that’s been proven over the years, is to set a specific target.  We’re biased of course, but it could be something like “Ride 50 miles in under 5 hours at Bike the Coast”, or “Drop 6 pounds between now and November 3 by training for Bike the Coast” or “Complete my first century ride”.

We’re just about 10 weeks out from Bike the Coast - Taste the Coast, and we’d love to provide a great target to help you reach your cycling & fitness goals.

Let us know what your goals are, and whether or not you’re able to ride with us, we’ll do our best to connect you with our coaches, ride groups and partners that can help you check off a successful personal goal.  And you’ll also be in the mix to win some great giveaways!  So go for it!

Post an answer below or on our Facebook page by 11:59pm, Monday 8/27.  You’ll be in for a chance to win one of four giveaway items:

  • a Ride & Jersey combo for Bike the Coast,
  • a $150 gift certificate for XX2i Optics,
  • 2 weeks of free premium coaching with John Howard,
  • and a free PowerFiTTE session from John Howard Performance Sports.

Congrats to Scott Goshorn for winning last weekend’s jersey with a string of great ride reports that tour Orange County and Los Angeles! And thank you to everyone who participated and shared their weekend rides!

10 weeks from now, I want to be able to do at least 20 burpees easily.

  2. Brent Hedden -

I’ve got two goals in mind, one personal and a team one -

Personally, I will lose 10-15 pounds between now and then. I’ve already changed part of my eating habits, which have been helpful. I’ve also increased my exercise routines recently.

The 2nd goal is to have my daughter and I be able to tandem climb up the Scripts Poway Parkway grade (from Poway to Ramona/67) without stopping. We’ve been on this road several times, but each time we have to ‘take a breather’ at least twice along the way. If my personal goal keeps on track and we tackle this road at least twice a month, I’m confident we’ll be able to meet this one.

I hope to ride more during the week and on weekends, I recently had my foot broken and had a cast for about 6 weeks, it’s been about 3 weeks since they removed the cast so I am hoping I can build up my stamina again and lose about 10 pounds by Nov. 3. I just completed my 2nd ride on Tuesday since the cast has been off and did 17 miles!

I would like to lose between 5-10 pounds before my first ‘big’ bike ride. I’ve never ridden in an event like this so I’m kinda nervous. But I’m sticking with it and if anything, I’ve learned to enjoy riding!
Goal 1: enjoy being on a my bike- ongoing
Goal 2: lose weight - ongoing
Goal 3: ride 25 miles - will complete on 11/3
Goal 4: enjoy after-ride festivities on 11/3 - anxiously awaiting!

10 weeks from now I want to be recuperating from my first 70.3 distance triathlon and easing back into cycling with the 25-mile Bike The Coast ride…looking forward to being able to thoroughly enjoy the Taste the Coast part of the ride because I will be in my recovery phase and not my training phase…so it will be FUN, FUN, FUN!

I want to increase my leg strength and stamina to be able to complete a 50 mile ride. I am currently at 25 and would like to increase my riding duration.

  7. Nina N -

My goal is to have fun riding 100 miles. Seriously! This is my first ever century and first time I’ve ever ridden 100 miles. As I’m ramping up the mileage to a long ride of 50 miles, I’m trying to keep my riding fun. I want to be comfortable enough that not only do I ride 100 miles but I also enjoy the sights, meet great people, and ride with my brother. I want to pass on to my daughters, ages 7 and 9, that getting exercise is healthy and fun. The support I’m getting from Bike the Coast is great – beyond what I expected when signing up for a century – and helping me stay comfortable and have fun riding. I’m following—as best I can—the training program you all post every week. Thanks for asking about my goal — it’s helpful to put in writing.

  8. Ray Graham -

My goal for the next 10 weeks is to a) work on my hill climbing skills (or lack of) and b) to continue to reduce my 50 mile ride time and c) add more miles to my long rides.

  9. Marianne D -

10 weeks from now, my goal is to be able to get through 15 miles of biking.

The goal is to lose one pound per mile that i ride during Bike the Coast. So 15lbs by the day of the race. That’s already going to be a great goal to have achieved by then and of course finishing my very first Bike the Coast event would be amazing.
